Ruby Gems: Install Tips

To protect yourself from accidentally installing gems in your user directory:

  $ rm -rf ~/.gem
  $ touch .gem
  $ chmod 000 .gem

To protect yourself from accidentally installing gems in the root directory:

  $ sudo rm -rf ~root/.gem
  $ sudo touch ~root/.gem
  $ sudo chmod 000 ~root/.gem
